Irina Krush is the first American female Grandmaster. She is a daughter to Jewish immigrants from Ukraine but converted to Christianity. She also writes in a popular chess magazine.

in 2003 she played in the Pan-American Chess Championship held in Buenos Aires, against Grandmaster Oswaldo Zambrana, Bolivia’s first and, so far, only Grandmaster.
