Tigran Petrosian was born 1929 in Tiflis, today Tbilisi, in Georgia.

After the war, in 1946, his Armenian parents moved back to Armenia. That same year, when he was 17, he won the Soviet Junior Championship held in Leningrad, today St. Petersburg.

One of his games was against Yuri Kotkov, born 1930 in Russia. Petrosian in White, and Petrosian’s Knight on C4 is under attack. After analyzing his options, White identifies an opportunity...
